Grab the Initiative

“Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God’s Law and Prophets and this is what you get. (Matthew 7:12 MSG)

Sometimes I find that I have some crazy unspoken expectations for others. Everyone from my husband and children to our staff members. This verse really spoke to my heart. How often do I take the initiative to do these same things for them? I recently watched a conference with John Maxwell and he said that in the end it is all about others...it's never about"me".

Today I am challenged...the next time I have an expectation (for me this tends to be relationally) I will take the initiative and do that very thing for the other person.
