GO and make disciples

This past week we held four medical clinics/medical assessments with our partners, Heartbeat For Africa, in three villages where we work.  We took our youth with us…making this their first missions trip. I loved watching them with the people…I loved watching them be Jesus to the people in a very simple way…through LOVE!

As a ministry we are beginning to see the benefits of self sustainability…you the know the saying "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"…this is what we are planning to do in the villages where we work….teach them how to fish (isn't this interesting since we work in the fishing communities). Our goal is to this through Community Health Evangelism (CHE).

This week we were reminded just how desperate the people are where we work. We saw full families with HIV,  teenage mothers, severe disabilities, malnutrition, severe high blood pressure in over half the population, blindness…

Our kids came out of these villages. These people we serve are their families, their friends. The emotions of knowing that our kids could be the ones dealing with the same issues their families are dealing with - poverty, hopelessness, fear, sickness, teenage pregnancy, STDs and HIV - but God brought them to us for a purpose - to be discipled, trained and equipped and then to return to their villages, their families and friends to be the light in the dark places.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28:18-20

It is up to us to make disciples…
